Summary: | Who is a girl like me? Somebody who worked hard to get to university, somebody who didn't 'sleep around', someone who had an amazing family and great parents? I was all of those things but, as a society, we are conditioned to think that if you have a child at a young age your life is over. That's it, you're done. In 2012, the Children's Ombudsman ruled that principal, Padraig O'Shea, and the school, had discriminated against a 16-year-old girl who was pregnant and trying to gain entry to the school. I'm glad he was finally held accountable but, back then, I didn't have the time to fight his decision. I had exams to prepare for. "I was a bit shocked at first but then I came around to it. I'd no idea how things would turn out, so obviously that's scary, but I realised every woman must experience that. I'm a resilient person, I knew I'd just do my best. |
