Summary:To the editor - It's appalling to me how the sequester was allowed to happen, and how it is now hurting our children. One of the programs that have been greatly hit by the 5.3 percent across the board cuts is Head Start. Just in our state alone it will mean that at least 1,000 children could be eliminated from the Head Start programs. Just in Yakima and the Lower Valley it could potentially affect 950 slots as a result of the cuts. In many of the programs it may mean that many cuts will start immediately.
