Summary: | Yash Chopra's conviction in his unique style of filmmaking, his musical sense and ear for scripts that were unconventional but rooted in Indian society, made a 'Yash Chopra romance' an assured success at the box office. [BR Chopra]'s superhit romance-themed films, such as Kabhi Kabhie, [Chandni], Dil To Pagal Hai and Veer-Zaara, earned him the title of 'King of Romance' in Bollywood. Heroines vied for the 'Yash Chopra' treatment and such films were popular with audiences across all ages. Though Chopra is credited with changing the face of romance in Hindi cinema, his work encompassed so much more. He was one of the few filmmakers who dared to tell stories that were different and 'brave' for the times - an illegitimate Hindu child brought up by a Muslim in Dhool Ka Phool, an extra-marital affair and its fallout in Silsila and a woman falling in love with her mother's admirer in Lamhe. |
