Summary: | THE AIM OF THIS DISSERTATION WAS TO EXAMINE THE DEVELOPMENTAL INFLUENCE OF STUDY TIME ON MEMORY AND RECOGNITION OF COLOUR AND SUBJECT MATTER PLACEMENT IN PAINTINGS AND THE DEVELOPMENTAL INFLUENCE OF VISUAL DISCRIMINATION. 280 SUBJECTS FROM GRADE LEVELS OF ONE, FIVE AND NINE PARTICIPATED IN THE STUDY. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT STUDY TIME INFLUENCED THE DISCRIMINATION OF COLOUR AND SUBJECT MATTER PLACEMENT FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS, BUT THAT THIS EFFECT DECREASED AS AGE INCREASED. THE RESULTS SUPPORTED BOTH THE VIEW THAT PERCEPTUAL SENSITIVITY TO STIMULUS INFORMATION INCREASES WITH AGE WHICH ALLOWS FOR MORE ACCURATE DISCRIMINATION BETWEEN SIMILAR THINGS, AND THE VIEW THAT MEMORY BECOMES MORE EFFICIENT AT ENCODING AND DECODING DATA AS AGE INCREASES. |
