Summary:Changes in educational & cultural capital match between spouses is examined via interview data on educational level, consumer goods, & cultural & leisure activities from 404 households in Lleida, Spain. Hypogamous unions, where the women were more educated than their spouses, were in the minority. Per descriptive analysis, educational hypogamy was related to generational cohort & cultural capital, as hypothesized. Educational hypogamy occurred more among younger women & those more highly educated; cultural capital was more frequent in households characterized by educational hypogamy, & women in those households were apt to be more liberal. Hypogamous families in Spain are evidence of familial modernization with more symmetry in conjugal power & domestic roles. 4 Tables, 55 References. Adapted from the source document.
