Summary:Discusses changes in Brazilian health care & their impact on mothers & children, based on interview data from two cohorts of new mothers in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in 1982 & 1993 (N = 5,914 & 5,249, respectively). Attempts were made to recontact a 25% subsample of the first cohort at mean age 12 months & the full sample at mean age 20 months. A search was made at 12 months of age for 20% of children & all low birthweight infants in the 1993 cohort. Methodological aspects of both studies are discussed. 3 Tables, 16 References.
