Summary:Maier relates her interview with Dr. William Aldis, Regional Advisor for Africa for Emergency & Humanitarian Action at the World Health Organization (WHO). Aldis discusses the overall project of WHO & his personal role in the organization. Aldis notes that the most pressing issue at hand for WHO is complex emergencies, or situations in countries where institutions are no longer functioning. It is explained that, in addition to offering medical aid, WHO also assists in resuscitating hospitals & services. Aldis addresses the reactions of governments to WHO, problems associated with AIDS, & the relationship between economy & politics in crisis areas. Finally, Aldis relates his experiences with child soldiers in Sierra Leone, addresses the child health situation, & gives some policy suggestions. Aldis concludes by stating that donor countries need to focus on building up systems inside countries rather than simply giving money from outside. J. Backman
