Summary:A report of a soc survey of Kuting District, 1 of 10 districts of Taipei City, in 1964-65. The study of civic org's, one of the many phases of the survey, is discussed here. CD is defined here as working primarily through the enlistment & org of self-help & cooperative effort on the part of the community residents, but usually with technical assistance from gov'al & voluntary org's. Civic org's play an extremely important role in CD & therefore it is imperative to understand their nature, characteristics, functions, & relations to the local community. The total number of civic org's of the Kuting District is 104; after Chengchung District it occupies 2nd place among 10 districts of Taipei City. Each org was interviewed by a student, & then classified by nature into 2 broad groups: one includes 6 labor unions, 3 chambers of commerce, & 1 professional federation. The other comprises 34 academic societies, 5 cultural assoc's, 5 women's org's, 2 sports clubs, & 37 friendship assoc's. Only 4 of them were specially
