Summary:In the last 20 years, a new class of metal matrix material (DRA - Discontinuously Reinforced with a luminium alloy matrix and SiC particles as phase h as been developed. The most important during composite production is the homogenisation of metal and cerami c powder particles. analysis of the SiC particl e distribution in the alloy matrix (CW67) was used to determine the homogenisation parameters of diffe rent powders. level of mixture homogeneity largely depen ded on amount of mixing dish filling, homogenisation tim and characteristics of the reinforcing particles. was s hown that the lowest values of the index corresp onded to the best uniformity of SiC in the CW67 ma trix. The composite with the value of homogeneity ind ex was that with 5 vol% SiC, homogenised for 60 min and t he amount of dish filling of 20 vol%. This composite displayed best values of mechanical properties and fract resistance.
