Summary:The structure of carbon and silicon carbide through the pyrolysation of wood and the melt-infiltrati on with silicon was studied as a of the initial car bon pyrolysation temperature. TEM, mercury intrusion po rosimetry, XRD and spectroscopy were used to character ise the derived from initial carbon pyrolysation te in the range 300-2400 C. Although structural diff abounded in carbon pyrolysed at different es, the resulting silicon carbide was independent the ini tial temperature of carbon pyrolysation.
