Summary:LaCoO3 powders were synthesised by a sol-gel in aqueo us medium starting from metal nitrates acetates, and citr ic acid as the chelating agent room temperature. The rela tionship between the in solution, crystallisation pathway and is discussed. The dried powders were amorphous. thermal decomposition occurred stepwise upo n to 400 C for nitrate or 500 C for acetate-based ecursors, respectively. Pure perovskite LaCoO3 was for med after heating at 600 C in the case of while in the case of acetates separation of occurred when 2 mo l of citric acid was used. The of the precursor influ enced the morphology of powders heated at 600 C. The nit rate-based were composed of agglomerates of fine par ticles the acetate-based powders consisted mainly of g fragments. Some preliminary electrical and prop erties are also presented.
