Summary:Alkaline basaltic tuffs, from Southern Turkey character ised and used to prepare ceramic and materials by a combined sintering and process. The ch emical and mineralogical were analysed by XRF a nd XRD, respectively. The formation and the sintering behaviour were by DTA, differential dilatometer and hot-stage The microstructure and residual p orosity of the samples were observed by SEM and pyc nometry. materials, based on 50% basaltic tuff and 5 0% were obtained at 1150 C with 13% total porosity 4% water absorption. Glass-ceramics were direct ly using the milled basaltic tuff by a n technique, in the range 900-1150 C. The show ed that, due to the high porosity and low alk aline tuffs could be a suitable raw material ceramic app lication.
