Summary:The quality of images obtained by aero transported imaging systems depends on the correct assembling of the optical components in the optical system as well as the positioning of the optical system in the satellite or airplane. This paper presents the development of optical reticules to be applied on portable scene simulators. These simulators are used to evaluate and check satellite imaging systems before launching. The line dimensions and the Nyquist's frequency (38 lp/mm) were the challenges of this project. There were lines only 25 mum apart. The substrates were BK7 glass and the thin films made of Al and Stainless Steel, using Cr as ad layer. The line patterns were obtained by UV laser ablation. Optical microscope images of the prototypes are presented. The glass damage threshold and ablation threshold of thin film ablation were obtained, showing the process limits and its viability.
