ROLE OF Li2CO3 AND PbO IN THE LOW-TEMPERATURE OF Sr, K, Nb (SKN)-DOPED PZT

Summary:The use of about 0.9 mol% Li2CO3 (LC) as a aid for Sr, K, Nb modified Pb(Zr1-x,Tix)O3 (PZT) was effective only in the presence of excess PbO 2 mol%). LC and PbO reacted to form the compound (LPO) which had a melting temperature of about C. Using dilatometry, it was possible to shrinkage during heating of a green ceramic to melting of the LPO. Consequently, complete and sizeable grain growth were achieved by of the ceramic through the liquid phase. sintering was not particularly effective with small additions of either LC or PbO alone. In of this model, the LPO compound was and used as the only sintering aid in the same composition. The densification behaviour of this compared well with the case of separate
