Correlation between microstructure and toughness due to the application of different heat treatments in a steel microalloyed low carbon

This study intents to correlate microstructure and Charpy impact test properties in a low carbon steel (0,038%). Three heat treatments were applied. The volume fraction were measured and identified with optical, electron and atomic force microscopy. The Charpy impact test results indicated that modi...

Summary:This study intents to correlate microstructure and Charpy impact test properties in a low carbon steel (0,038%). Three heat treatments were applied. The volume fraction were measured and identified with optical, electron and atomic force microscopy. The Charpy impact test results indicated that modified the range of temperature the transition temperature was modified too, and the samples austenitized at 950degC absorbed more energy and the transition temperature has decreased.
