Summary:A practice was carried out to evaluate the influence of austenitization temperature and cooling rate on the microstructure and mechanical properties of medium carbon microalloyed steel. After austenitization at two temperature of 1100 deg C and 1300 deg C the microalloyed steel specimens were cooled to various schedules in order to study the influence of cooling rate and austenitization temperature on the characteristic of microstructure and some mechanical properties. The yield and tensile strength and hardness values were determined. The volume fraction of ferrite and pearlite as the function of cooling rate and austenitization temperature was followed by optical microscopy using MIP technique. The results signify that by increasing the cooling rate both strength and hardness increase. Also the volume fraction of ferrite is increased by increasing the cooling rate. Increasing the austenitization temperature seems to raise the both strength and hardness and also volume fraction of ferrite.
