Summary: | Gonzalez argues that keeping refineries profitable in the face of changing market forces and regulatory requirements is a constant challenge. One approach is to improve the sustainability of fluid catalytic cracking units by coprocessing alternative feedstocks. However, the feasibility of coprocessing depends on the percentage of alternative feedstock used, with less than 5% being the consensus threshold. Above this threshold, additional expertise and technologies, such as more active catalysts and absorbents, are needed for efficient conversion of renewable feedstocks to fuels and chemicals. |
