Site Preference Study of Ti-Mn and Ti-Co Substitution for Fe3+ in Ba Hexagonal Ferrites by Means of X-ray Diffraction and Absorption Measurement

The cation distribution of M-type BaFe12O19 hexagonal ferrite with partial substitution x(TC0.54+M0.52+)3+ [M = Mn, Co] for xFe3+ has been investigated by using X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption measurements. The Rietveld analysis revealed that Ti ions were mainly substituted for Fe ions on bip...

Summary:The cation distribution of M-type BaFe12O19 hexagonal ferrite with partial substitution x(TC0.54+M0.52+)3+ [M = Mn, Co] for xFe3+ has been investigated by using X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption measurements. The Rietveld analysis revealed that Ti ions were mainly substituted for Fe ions on bipyramidal 2b and octahedral 4f2 sites. EXAFS studies showed that the distribution functions of transition metals in Ba (Ti0.5M0?5)xFe12-O19 (x=1, 2, 3, 4, 5) for M = Mn do not differ significantly from M = Co. However, the electronic states boundary of the Mn ion in Mn-Ti substitution system was found by XANES spectra of Mn K-edge.
