Summary:Intrinsic properties, such as the London penetration depth /lambda//L/, and the surface resistance R/s/, can be estimated in high-Tc films by studying self-induced electromagnetic resonances (Fiske modes) in bicrystal grain boundaries. Grain boundaries, 4-30 mum long and 0.2 mum thick in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7) made on yttria-stabilized zirconia 0-32 deg [001]-tilt bicrystals were investigated. Typical values obtained for /lambda//L/ and R/s/ (at approximately 200-400 GHz) are 110-170 nm, and 20-710 m /Omega/, respectively.
