Summary: | Using a powerful postamplifier, a remotely pumped preamplifier, chromatic dispersion compensation and forward error correction, a repeaterless transmission distance of 461 km has been achieved at 8x2.5 Gb/s. This experiment demonstrates the possibility of using launch signal powers in excess of 1 W when the chromatic dispersion compensation is optimized to minimize nonlinear impairments. In addition, 377 km has been achieved by replacing the remotely pumped preamplifier with a distributed Raman preamplifier |
