Summary:Discusses the new European Standards that address the coating of concrete. The harmonised EN 1504 series "Products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures", supporting the legislative requirements of the Construction Products Directive, will provide a basis for supply, testing and specification of CE-marked products. Here, coatings are dealt with in the broader context of the repair and protection of new or existing concrete structures. The non-harmonised European Standard BS EN 1062-1: 1997 "Paints and varnishes - coating materials and coating systems for exterior masonry and concrete. Part 1: Classification" is primarily aimed at avoiding misuse.
