Summary:Comedy on the Bridge2 * Cornelius Meister, cond; 1Elena Tsallagova (Elénore); 2Esther Dierkes (Josephine); 1Maria Riccarda Wesseling (The Mother); 2Stine Marie Fischer (Eva); 2Bjöm Bürger (Johnny); 2Michael Smallwood (The Schoolmaster); Adam Palka (Satan); Andrew Bogard (The Brewer); Stuttgart St O * CAPRiCCiO 5477 (64:31 Ш) These two one-act operas find Martinů in cabaret mood, writing sprightly music for small and varied ensembles, and always maintaining his sense of humor, even when the plots turn macabre. Martinů later adapted it to an English-language text, for a student performance at the Mannes School, where he was then teaching, in 1951. Saturne then returns from the dead, as does Elénore, but a happy ending is diverted by the resurrected Saturne being Satan in disguise.
