Electrical and magnetic properties of Ru sub(1-x)M sub(x)Sr sub(2)GdCu sub(2)O sub(8) (M identical with Ti, V and Nb)

Samples of Ru sub(1-x)M sub(x)Sr sub(2)GdCu sub(2)O sub(8), with M identical with Ti, V and Nb; and 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 1, were synthesized to shed light on the role of the RuO sub(2) planes in this 1212-type compound which is a ferromagnetic superconductor (T sub(c) iden...

Summary:Samples of Ru sub(1-x)M sub(x)Sr sub(2)GdCu sub(2)O sub(8), with M identical with Ti, V and Nb; and 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 1, were synthesized to shed light on the role of the RuO sub(2) planes in this 1212-type compound which is a ferromagnetic superconductor (T sub(c) identical with 10-40 K) when x identical with 0. We show that the ferromagnetism and the superconductivity are weakened for M identical with Ti and Nb, and enhanced for M identical with V, although superconductivity is suppressed for all samples of higher doping levels (x > 0.2). Jonker analysis of the high-temperature electrical properties of RuSr sub(2)GdCu sub(2)O sub(8) shows that it falls within the characteristic range for other known superconductors.
