Summary:Scattering angle dependent energy spectra of reflected projectiles following collisions of N exp 6,7+ on Al(110) along a random direction, at grazing incidence and keV energies were measured. In a single measurement, this technique allows simultaneous determination of the positive ion yields and their respective energy loss. The most remarkable outcome of these measurements is the appearance of an initial charge state effect on the energy loss. Furthermore an extreme sensitivity of these multiply charged ions to the first layer is observed. Copyright (c) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
