Summary:In Mg super(2+)-substituted NdCrO sub(3), single-phase perovskite compounds Nd(Cr sub(1 - x)Mg sub(x))O sub(3), where x=0 to 0.25, have been formed at low temperatures by decomposition of Nd(Cr sub(1 - x)Mg sub(x))O sub(4), which crystallize from amorphous materials prepared by the hydrazine method. Nd(Cr sub(1 - x)Mg sub(x))O sub(3) powders consisting of submicrometer-size particles are highly sinterable; dense materials can be fabricated by sintering for 4 h at 1800 degree C under atmospheric pressure. The relative densities, grain sizes, and electrical conductivities increase with increased Mg super(2+) content. Nd(Cr sub(0.75)Mg sub(0.25))O sub(3) materials show an excellent electrical conductivity of 1.4 x 10 super(3) S m super(-1) at 1000 degree C. copyright 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
