Summary:The kinetics of oxidation in air at 600-1000 deg C of binary titanium-chromium carbide with high chromium concentrations (55-76 mass%) and chromium carbide powders were studied. Chromium carbide possessed the highest oxidation resistance under these conditions. The activation energy for oxidation depended only slightly on the composition of the binary carbide and grain size. The composition dependence of the degree of oxidation for 3 h at various temperatures was determined.
