Summary:"At a time when older generations are more vulnerable, it is especially appropriate that the reception of elderly people as an intristic and indispensable quality be expressed in architecture. This endeavor can be outweighed by the generic presence of gerontophobic positions that compromise the social identity of the architectural avant-garde. A more detailed review may shed some light on the issue and further nuance hasty assessments. This text discusses the image of old age extracted from Le Corbusier’s published works. IN his understanding of the subject there are many points in common with his contemporaries and others that belong to his own experiences and his particular way of interpreting the world around him. Even though his choice for physical vigour and activity may become generationally exclusive, it may as well be assessed the absence of an explicit association to predetermined age brackets." Keywords : Le Corbusier, International Style, ageing, gerontophobia, Modulor.
