AC-Susceptibility and Penetration Depth Studies of U sub 1--x Th sub x Be sub 13

Preliminary measurements were made of the magnetic-field penetration depth in the U sub 1--x Th sub x Be sub 13 system on polycrystalline samples with x = 0.0066 and 0.0355 using ac-susceptibility and a tunnel-diode-oscillator technique. The x = 0.0066 sample shows a double peak in the dissipative c...

Summary:Preliminary measurements were made of the magnetic-field penetration depth in the U sub 1--x Th sub x Be sub 13 system on polycrystalline samples with x = 0.0066 and 0.0355 using ac-susceptibility and a tunnel-diode-oscillator technique. The x = 0.0066 sample shows a double peak in the dissipative component, chi ", near T sub c and a linear temperature dependence of the inductive component, chi ', < 160mK. The measurements on the x = 0.0355 sample show no relevant features at 0.39K, the temperature of the second phase transition, at both high and low frequencies.
