Summary:The mechanism of AlF sub(3) mineralizer influence on the solid state reaction rate is as follows: incorporation of F super(-) ions from the gas phase on O super(2-) lattice sites in anion sublattice. This brings about the cation vacancy concentration increase. In other words it causes the enhancement of ferritization reaction and the retardation of the densification. Retardation of the densification process at higher fluorine concentrations, due to lower contact area between reactant particles, masks the reaction rate increase brought about by the point defect concentration increased. This retarding effect is usual with active powders as was Fe sub(2)O sub(3) used in our experiments.
