Summary:In previous papers the authors studied the possibility of reducing heavy ion release from ceramic glazes for industrial use by examining a complex FB base composition. By replacing the K super(+) in FB with other alkaline ions in various proportions, they obtained a reduction of emission corresponding to a minimum value of a parameter related to the composition and to the ionic radii of all the constituent ions. A reduced release was also obtained after the addition of trivalent ion oxides to the FB base composition. The authors intend to ascertain whether the substitution of alkaline ions and the addition of trivalent ion oxides yield additive effects, and which is prevalent.
