Summary:The basic principles of designing modern gyroscopic instruments for stabilizing the attitude of flight vehicles and orienting antennas and optical systems are outlined. The dynamic errors of gyroscopic sensitive elements are analyzed, and their influence on the precision of stabilization and orientation is examined. The design and parameters of some advanced gyroscopic instruments are discussed, with particular reference to air-supported gyroscopes, gas-floated spinning spheres, and free rotor gyroscopes.
