Summary:It is thought that the one big advantage of such variety is that it acts as a kind of insurance policy that allows future evolution to occur if required. Pests are also normally attacked by a vast array of predators and parasites like spiders and wasps that act as biological control agents and that can be very effective in suppressing pest populations. A long-term strategy for countering emerging asexual pests is to encourage natural biological control agents by making our agricultural landscapes more complex.
