Summary: | The 'Wachet Auf' chorale, played by the quartet alone, is done slowly and rather romantically, but with so little vibrato it suggests a viol consort. In similar fashion [Awadagin Pratt] plays the Busoni arrangement of 'Wachet Auf' (Schubler chorale) very deliberately, while Contrapunctus I (from The Art of Fugue) is very shaped and contemplative. All of these seem to lack spine and hence please me less than the concertos. |
