Summary:During driving the vehicle lithium ion battery pack voltage and current are constantly varied due to the charging and discharging repetitions which affect the available power of the battery pack to the electric motor. And this is associated with discharge power of battery. In order to estimate battery pack overall available power accurate SOC (State of Charge) estimation is necessary. In this study battery power and internal resistance considered SOC estimation method is investigated by applying the simplified impedance modeling, which draws battery actual available power from the calculation of power applied to the load and internal resistance during charging and discharging for the accurate SOC estimation. Battery pack SOC estimation algorithm is carried out by MATALAB SIMULINK, and it claims that the new SOC estimation method shows 3% error under Urban dynamometer driving schedule (UDDS) and Highway fuel economy test (HWFET) drive cycle at various temperatures.
