Summary:In this study, benthic foraminiferal assemblages belonging to the continental shelf of the Bueyuek Menderes River delta (W Turkey) are systematically examined in 16 sediment samples. The samples generally consist of mud, sand and gravel. A total of 87 foraminiferal species belonging to 38 families and 62 genera were determined, and 6 benthic foraminiferal assemblages occur on the shelf, being dominated by 6 species, all calcareous hyaline. These assemblages are Valvulineria bradyana (Fornasini), Neoeponides bradyi Le Calvez, Ammonia compacta (Hofker), Ammonia tepida (Cushman), Cribroelphidium poeyanum (d'Orbigny) and Elphidium crispum (Linne). In addition, the relation of the dominant species with CaCO sub(3) concentration is investigated and their distributions in the assemblages are given.
