For Ryan Holiday is a master manipulator, by his own admission and indeed his proud claim on the cover of a previous book, Trust Me, I'm Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator. A fake story based on one anonymous 'source' with a defamatory charge about someone gets thirty thousand page views; the denial ("Senator denies molesting intern at party") gets another thirty thousand, and a follow-up apology of an apology after a legal notice for a takedown gets twenty thousand more.
