Summary:Until recently, lab managers in the US have had only two gas distribution options at their disposal: central systems and dedicated cylinders. Central systems entail considerable front-end and ongoing costs, especially if they must be retrofitted into an existing facility. Individual dedicated cylinders often clutter up precious lab space and present an obstacle to foot traffic, particularly in equipment-intensive labs. Fortunately, today there is a safe and cost-effective third option: bench-level supply of common high-purity gases. Many types of gases can now be generated at the point of use. Nitrogen, hydrogen, and zero air are the three most prominent carrier and supporting gases used in analytical labs. Current technology has rendered these systems completely safe and reliable.
