Summary: | In the endowment of the abbey church of Sant Miquel de Cuixà, dedicated on 28 September 974, count-bishop Miró wrote that the building's promoters, according to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, erected seven altars and assembled seven bishops to consecrate them. This triple mention is a pretext for organizing the study of the ceremony considering three interwoven aspects: its theological echoes, its political implications, and its relationship with the topographical and liturgical layout of the church. All three perspectives contribute to the characterization of the event as a landmark in the historical process of material and architectural affirmation of the Church as an institution in the medieval West around the year 1000.
