Summary: | Before modern technology developments, beakers were constructed using three methods. The raising process was used from antiquity until the 19th century; this challenging method requires the silversmith to hammer melted silver then raises the silver while hammering it. The second method was to solder pieces together; this became customary with rolled silver beginning around 1800. The third, found in England and France, were rolled or spun beakers. This requires a piece of metal to be forced around the shape of a wooden form. |
