Summary:In order to study the impact of livestock on the environment, it was conducted the analysis of some microbiological parameters, Vibrionaceae and coliforms, in water bodies of aquaculture facilities in Mar Grande of Taranto (Italy; Ionian Sea). The results obtained showed the presence of potentially pathogenic bacterial species, both for humans and for animals. This study showed the necessity of routine microbiological monitoring, in order to better understand the distribution and abundance of potentially pathogenic species. It also highlighted the usefulness of defining new metrics for the quality of the environment and the protection of human health.
