Summary: | The introduction of the Head of Education and Welfare (HoEW) within the Football Association's (FA) Premier League `Academies' has increased the emphasis on the educational and welfare provision of elite young footballers. The role monitors and influences how clubs embrace the educational, technical, academic and social needs of the young player. This study reports on part of a longitudinal exploration of the role of the HoEW within the FA Premier League Academy structure. More specifically, a number of one-to-one interviews sought to examine the background, skills and experiences required to provide an educational and welfare remit within the traditional and elite domain of professional football. |
