Summary:Catalogue to an exhibition of found photographs presented by Peter Piller. The author describes the various purposes to which images are used in contemporary society, highlights the importance of the second look for an observer accustomed to a plethora of images, and comments on Piller's practice of collecting and thematically arranging photographs culled from sources such as local newspapers. He explains how Piller came by an archive of commercial images from an estate agent, which encompasses aerial photographs of modern detached houses in rural locations and forms the series Schlafende Häuser, and for another series selected Internet images of munitions, which were presented for sale in domestic settings. He compares Piller's pictorial archive with the work Mnemosyne Atlas created in 1929 by Aby Warburg, and concludes with Piller's own assessment of the power of images.
