Summary:The effect of cadmium exposure on lipid peroxidation in tilapia has been studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of cadmium exposure on the lipid peroxidation production in tilapia in an attempt to evaluate the potential usefulness for biomarker of heavy metal contamination in fish. The research was divided into two studies, dose response relationship and time-course study, which were conducted simultaneously. Then the effects of cadmium exposure on lipid peroxidation was studied in the short-term and long-term period. Experimentally, fish were exposed to various levels of cadmium over a short-term period of up to seven days or over a long-term period of up to four weeks. In the short-term period, MDA production increased proportionally with time and concentration of cadmium. The highest MDA level was reached in the 1.00-ppm concentration level on the seventh day. But during the long-term study the MDA productions varied.Original Abstract: Penelitian mengenai pengaruh pemaparan kadmium terhadap peroksidasi lemak pada ikan nila telah dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh pemaparan logam berat kadmium terhadap produksi peroksidasi lemak pada ikan nila dan mengetahui potensinya sebagai biomarker dampak pemaparan logam. Penelitian dibagi menjadi dua bagian, yaitu studi mengenai dose-response dan studi fungsi waktu. Kedua studi tersebut dilakukan secara bersamaan. Pada penelitian ini ikan nila dipaparkan pada beberapa tingkat konsentrasi kadmium pada jangka waktu pendek (l minggu) dan jangka waktu panjang (1 bulan). Tingkat akumulasi kadmium di hati dan produksi malondialdehida (MDA), yang merupakan indikator peroksidasi lemak diukur setiap 2 hari pada jangka waktu pendek, dan setiap minggu pada jangka waktu panjang. Pada jangka waktu pendek produksi MDA meningkat sesuai dengan fungsi waktu dan konsentrasi kadmium di air. Produksi MDA tertinggi dicapai pada tingkat konsentrasi kadmium terlarut 1.00 ppm di hari ke tujuh Pada jangka waktu yang lebih lama, produksi MDA cenderung beragam.
