Summary:As the satellite network characteristics of long propagation delay and receiver heterogeneity, hybrid ARQ scheme can not be directly applied to satellite network. To adapt the characteristics of satellite network, a new hybrid ARQ scheme is proposed. RSE coding is adopted to recover package losses. Receivers are classified according to their package loss rate, then a layered transmission method is proposed. With this method, receivers can choose to join one or more transmission layers to receive redundancy packages. Thus system efficiency would not be affected by receivers with high package loss rate. Performance evaluation by simulations shows that comparing other reliability assurance schemes, the new hybrid-ARQ scheme achieves better throughput efficiency and scalability.
