Summary:This paper aims to show an analysis of the reduction of nitrogen pick-up to stabilized ferritic stainless steels produced at ArcelorMittal Inox Brazil through a new practice in the converter process. Aiming to produce steel with low nitrogen content in the AOD converter, we developed a new practice of tapping steel through the use of metallurgical principles nitrogen for removal/absorption. Using this new practice it was possible increase the chromium yield, improve the efficiency of sulfur removing in the converter, and improve the steel quality and reduce its production cost.
