Summary: | On-farm experiment have been carried out during the year 2006 to 2010 on the effect of chemical and organic amendments on sunflower yield, yield parameters and soil properties in alkali Vertisols of northern Karnataka. Pooled data of five years revealed that application of FYM [at] 10 t/ha with 50% GR recorded significantly higher seed yield (17.96 q/ha), seed yield per plant (21.07 g) and test weight (28.96 g) and the yield was on par with the application of FYM [at] 10 t/ha with 75% GR(16.81 q/ha), vermin compost [at] 2.5 t/ha with 50% GR (16.80 q/ha) and vermicompost [at] 2.5 t/ha with 75% GR (17.03 q/ha) when compared to 15.24, 14.82, 12.85 q/ha in case of 50% GR alone. 75% GR alone and control respectively. At the end of the experiment (2010), surface soil pH and EC decreased over the years and was differed significantly among the treatments during 2009 and 2010 only. The EC was lowest in the treatment with application of FYM [at] 10 t/ha with 75% GR (1.50 dS/m) followed by FYM [at] 10 t/ha with 50% GR (1.53 dS/m). Application of FYM [at] 10 t/ha with 75% of GR recorded lower soil pH (8.28). while soil ESP was lower in case of FYM [at] 10 t/ha with 75% GR (15.10%). |
