Summary:In-vivo subchronic toxicity of Spirulina platensis has been done. Spirulina spp, is commonly used as food supplement. Encapsulated dried Spirulina platensis as well as Spirulina tablet have been developed at the Research Centre for Marine and Fisheries Product Processing and Biotechnology, however the safety aspect of the product has not been evaluated. This research was aimed to test the toxicity of the product. The in-vivo test used male mice (Mus musculus L.) of DDY strain, 2-3 months in age with 20-30 g in body weight. In term of research treatments, the mice were divided into four groups and fed with dried Spirulina powder diluted in 0.5 percent CMC-Na solution for 4 weeks followed by 2 weeks recovery using standard feed. The treatments consisted of negative control (only 0.5 percent CMC Na 0,8 mL), 1 st dosage (2.6 mg/20 g mouse bw), 2nd dosage (5.2 mg/20 g mouse bw) and 3rd dosage (10.4 mg/20 g mouse bw); each group was tested on 18 mice. Blood analysis (GOT, GPT, creatinine and albumine) and histopatological test of liver, kidney and stomach were conducted every 2 weeks for 6 weeks. The result showed that GOT, GPT, creatinine and albumine of mouse blood during Spirulina treatment were still in normal range of healthy mouse. Result of histopatological test indicated that the 1st dose had no adverse effect on the liver, kidney, and stomach, but the 2nd and 3rd dose gave a low intensity damage shown by the degeneration of liver cell, necrosis of tubulus and protein deposit in kidney glomerulus. No damage occured in the mouse stomach.Original Abstract: Penelitian toksisitas subkronik Spirulina platensis secara in-vivo telah dilakukan. Spirulina spp. merupakan sumber protein nabati yang cukup tin99i sehingga pada umumnya dimanfaatkan sebagai suplemen makanan. Spirulina platensis dalam bentuk tablet dan kapsul telah dihasilkan oleh Balai Besar Riset Pengolahan Produk dan Bioteknologi Kelautan dan Perikanan, maka perlu dilakukan uji keamanannya bagi konsumen. Uji toksisilas sub-kronik Spirulina platensis dilakukan seeara bioassay menggunakan meneit jantan (Mus musculus L.) dari galur DDY. umur 2-3 bulan dengan bobot 20-30 g/ekor. Pemberian bahan uji (bubuk Spirulina kering disuspensikan dalam larutan 0,5 percent CMC-Na) dilakukan secara oral selama 4 minggu, selanjutnya dilakukan masa pemulihan selama 2 minggu dan setiap 2 minggu dilakukan pengambilan darah dan organ (hati, ginjal, dan lambung). Dibuat 4 kelompok perlakuan yaitu kontrol negatit (0,5 percent CMCNa sebesar 0,8 mL), dosis I (2,6 mg Spirulina/20 9 bb mencit), dosis II (5,2 mg Spirulina/20 9 bb mencit), dan kelompok dosis III (10,4 mg Spirulina/20 9 bb mencit). Parameter yang diamati adalah kandungan GOT (Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase), GPT (Glutamic Piruvate Transaminase). kreatinin, dan albumin. Hasil analisis kandungan GOT dan, GPT, kreatinin , dan albumin mencit selama perlakuan masih dalam batas normal. Hasil analisis stalistik semua parameter tidak berbeda nyata pada variasi dosis, kecuali pada dosis II, namun semua nilai masih dalam rentang nilai normal untuk mencit sehat. Pengamatan secara histopatologi menunjukkan bahwa pada kontrol dan dosis I tidak terjadi kerusakan yang berat pada hati, ginjal, dan lambung, sedangkan pada perlakuan dosis II dan III terjadi kerusakan ring an pada organ hati dan ginjal yang ditandai dengan adanya pengkerutan buluh darah, degenerasi sel hati; nekrosis pada sel tubulus, dan adanya endapan protein pada glomerulus ginjal, tetapi tidak terjadi kerusakan pada lambung.#A
