Summary:Kudo and colleagues report that, in immunocompetent patients, the hepatitis G virus (HGV) might be eliminated more easily by the host's immune system than in patients with immunosuppression. Neilson had previously made a supposition that HGV infection might be cleared with time, but added that this can be established only by longitudinal studies of infected individuals. We present our findings based on observations of seven HGV-positive non-immunodepressed patients who have been multiply-transfused for thalassaemia major or sickle cell disease, with packed red cells.
