Summary:An experiment was conducted to study the influence of finger miller varieties on egg characteristics of layers replacing maize at different levels. A control diet containing maize as the energy source and the test diets containing different varieties of finger millet viz. Indaf-5, Indaf-8, Indaf-9 and HR-9 11 at 12.5 and 25% levels replacing 25 and 50% of maize, respectively were prepared. Further, another set of 9 test diets were prepared by supplementing each diet with beta-glucanase and cellulase enzymes. Each of the 18 diets was offered to triplicate groups each of three 33 weeks and three 58 weeks old BV-300 commercial hens. The experimental period lasted for 84 days, which was conveniently divided into three 28-day interval periods. The egg weight, Haugh unit score, shape index and shell thickness remained similar among different treatment groups.
