They made these claims largely in the printed media, but also in the context of legal and administrative institutions such as the district courts. // ABSTRACT IN SLOVENE: Clanek analizira nacine, s katerimi so nacionalisticni aktivisti na Stajerskem ob zacetku 20. stoletja izrabljali vandalizem za napredek in siritev zahtev, ki terjajo odlocnejso vpletenost nacionalnosti v pravnem, administrativnem ter institucionalnem sistemu Cislajtanije. Uporaba pred kratkim razvitih metodoloskih konceptov »nenadne narodnosti« in »brezbrisnosti do naroda« nakazuje, da narod leta 1908 ni bila samoumevna kategorija, prav tako pa tudi ni predstavljal absolutne identifikacije in zavezanosti drzavnosti cislajtanske druzbe. Primer v clanku izhaja iz vecjezicne druzbe spodnje Stajerske prvega desetletja dvajsetega stoletja. Tamkajsnji nacionalisticni aktivisti so trdili, da nacionalna curva botrujejo razbremenilnim okoliscinam v sojenju lokalnemu vandalizmu.
